The Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana (LEGABIBO), is the premier LGBTIQ organisation in Botswana, that focuses exclusively on issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. At its core, LEGABIBO’s work centres around advocacy: that the human rights (including sexual and reproductive rights) of LGBTIQ people in Botswana would be respected, defended, protected, promoted, and fully realised.

LEGABIBO’s current Beyond the Rainbow Strategy largely focuses on strengthening people, community and movements to be in a position to transform systems, services and society, through active participation and engagement. In order to achieve LEGABIBO’s major strategic goal of catalysing legal, socioeconomic and systemic transformation, LEGABIBO recognises that it cannot achieve this alone, but through engagement of people – its members.

“Beyond the Rainbow” expresses a vision for systemic transformation in Botswana where legal, sociocultural, political and practical change have impact within, and beyond, the LGBTIQ community, to engage with the social fabric of the nation. The Strategy positions the LGBTIQ community as beneficiaries of transformation but does not end there: LGBTIQ people in Botswana are to be more than consumers; they are contributors to change
