Pitso Ya Legabibo
04 Nov
The Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana – LEGABIBO, is the premier LGBTIQ+ organisation in Botswana, focusing exclusively on issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. At its core, LEGABIBO’s work centres around advocacy: that the human rights (including sexual and reproductive rights) of LGBTIQ+ people in Botswana would be respected, defended, protected, promoted, and fully realised.
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.” — Brené Brown, “The Gifts of Imperfection”
The initial spark for LEGABIBO emerged in the late 1990s: we are the oldest LGBTIQ+, community organisation in Botswana. Advocating for change is in LEGABIBO’s DNA.
There is need for Sexual Reproductive Health Rights for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Intersex and Transgender people to be included in Health Promotion policies,
LEGABIBO aims to integrate a legal, ethical and human rights dimension into the response to the sexual reproductive and health rights of all people without discrimination.
We offer psychosocial support for LGBTI, parents and family. Our services are confidential and are handled by counsellors with extensive experience in this field.
We offer legal support and advice to LGBTIQ persons PFLAG through consultations with Human rights lawyers and para legals who provide free consultations.
LEGABIBO works towards ascertaining that laws and policies are aligned
At its heart, LEGABIBO is an advocacy and human rights organisation
