LEGABIBO – Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana – is the premier LGBTIQ+ organisation in Botswana, focusing exclusively on issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. At its core, LEGABIBO’s work centres around advocacy: that the human rights (including sexual and reproductive rights) of LGBTIQ+ people in Botswana would be respected, defended, protected, promoted, and fully realised.
“LEGABIBO came to my rescue when I was having difficulty with accepting the reality of my sexuality. It is through the free therapy sessions that I was able to discover and explore the whole of my personality and character that was hidden from the world. This opened up a lot of aspects in my life and brought huge change to a point where I am able to openly be myself. It is also through the support group meetings that I was able to interact with other queer people, and that created a safe space for me including creating new relations that act as a support system today for me. It means a lot to me that I am part of a community that accepts people for who and what they are more like embracing each other's difference”

"Ever since last year December [2020], I love myself and I have accepted my self, all thanks to LEGABIBO through the support from their COLAs. They took me to therapy until I was able to understand and appreciate myself better. I am non-binary and I understand what it means - because its me"

“I want to say thank you LEGABIBO for reaching out to my cry, I was hopeless and thought it was really over for me. I didn't have food but you [LEGABBO] helped me with food essentials. Your dedication, passion and love to help vulnerable LGBTIQ people it’s truly commendable. Also, I appreciate your help with stationary and internet at the Drop-in Centre, it really helped me when I didn't have resources to apply for jobs. I really appreciate that a lot, in my experience, that level of help results in growth and recognition. I will never forget your act of service and support. I am forever grateful for this opportunity. 😁❤❤❤❤❤

“LEGABIBO helped me with food hampers during the COVID-19 lockdown. The support systems availed helped to build my confidence and be able and enabled me to interact with people in my village and talk to them about inclusion for LGBTIQ people”
Tapiwa Lephojane Sexual and gender-based violence is still one of the most rampant issues in the queer community besides the strife for freedom and respect of LGBTIQ+ rights in Botswana. Gagotheko Mothai Let me paint a picture for you, her beauty is drizzled in dimples and caramel complexion with a dash of a pear-shaped body; and most importantly the way she walks seals it all. A whole package she is. As soon as I got the chance to sit down and engage with her, I […]
